Book Review - Rock Chick by Kristen Ashley

One of my favorite authors definately is Kristen Ashley, she writes the best badass-alpha males  heroes and fun-kickass heroines, and her books always have a very interesting plot and super funny supporting characters.  The problem with her books is that are usually VERY LONG, but it's definaltely worth the time you  spent reading a KA book.

Last week I have the opportunity to read ROCK CHICK, the book one in the ROCK CHICK SERIES by this author and I have to say this book is soooo worth 5 stars!

Ok, first of all, I still don't know how I spent all this time without reading this Kristen Ashley's book!... This is one of the best books of this author, still my favorites are Sweet Dreams, Motorcycle Man and Own the Wind, but for me this one deserves to be on the top 5 KA's best books.

"Indy Savage, cop's daughter, rock chick and used bookstore owner, has been in love with Lee Nightingale, once bad boy, now the man behind Nightingale Investigations, since she was five years old. No matter what ingenious schemes Indy used to capture his attention, Lee never showed an interest and Indy finally gave up. Now Indy's employee, Rosie, has lost a bag of diamonds and bad guys are shooting at him. When Indy gets involved, Lee is forced to help. Complicating matters, Lee has decided he's interested, Indy's decided she's not. But she can't seem to keep Lee out of her life when she's repeatedly stun gunned, kidnapped and there are car bombs exploding (not to mention she's finding dead bodies).

Indy's best bet is to solve the mystery of the diamonds before Lee. Lee's challenge is to keep Indy alive and, at the same time, win back her heart."

There are some things that I always like from KA's books, like I said, cool heroines, super hot alpha male and badass heroes, fun and crazy supporting characters, hot steamy scenes, lots of action and mysteries to solve, and this book covers them all.

Indy is super fun to read, a little bit silly and her friends are ... weird, but funny weird.  Lee is.... badass, hot super alpha, possessive and the list can go on...and there's a bunch of others badasses too!.  The only thing I would suggest is, I think there could be more interaction between those two, not like they don't interact (wink wink) but I missed a little bit of drama in their relationship, like real drama not Indy's made up drama, but that was fun.

“We aren’t finished yet,” he told me.

“Yes we are,” I retorted.

Lee’s crinkles disappeared and his face got serious.

“This is happening between you and me,” he threatened.

I wasn’t entirely sure what “this” meant since he announced to his mother and sister that we were “together”. Considering what I did know was that a goodly part of it involved us being naked, in his bed, participating in activities which required my avid participation, I wasn’t going to have any part of it.

“No, it isn’t,” I snapped back.

“We’ll talk about it later.”

“No, we won’t.”

His eyes narrowed. “Do I need to kiss you again?”

I took a hasty step back and watched my toe draw a pattern in the carpet.

“No,” I muttered.

“Christ, I need to get my head examined.”

My head snapped up.

“What does that mean?” I asked angrily.

“Nothin’. Be here when I get back.”

“Sure.”

Not on his life.

As any other KA's books, this book is super long, but it's so entertaining to read that really the time flies by when you read it, at least it was like that for me!

If you are into books with kickass heroine, hot alpha hero and a bunch of fun supporting characters, then this bok is a must read for you.

Book Review - Welcome to Sugartown (Sugartown #1) by Carmen Jenner

4 "mostly for Elijah Cade" Stars!

I was debating on how to rate this book since it left me with to many mixed emotions, love, heartbreak, sadness, hope, rage, confussion, happiness and more... the truth is, this book is brilliant that way, it makes you feel every emotion while you're reading and that should be praised enough to be fair.

When I first decided to put this book on my TBR it was because I read it was a fun reading and I saw the blurb I thought it sounded fine, but the truth is I was not prepared to the emotional rollercoaster I epxerienced while reading it.

In Welcome to Sugartown we meet Ana Belle, a 19 year old who owns the town's diner and bakes killer pies...

"Every day I dream of leaving Sugartown. And every day I open this crummy pie shop, I make pies and serve customers, and stay several hours after closing to make pies for the following day. I’m nineteen. The world should be full of endless possibilities, right? Wrong. Oh, so very wrong because I’ve just finished high school and my family happen to own this joint. So instead of making the world my oyster and all that, I’m stuck wearing this retro waitress uniform for the rest of my days—my mum and dad had some kind of rockabilly diner fetish, it’s sad really, don’t ask"

Yep, not a very happy girl, but she has Holly, the loyal best friend since kindergarten and Sammy, the six year old stepbrother.... I think those 2 were my favorite characters in this book...

“Do you ever want to crash one of their parties?” Holly pipes up, as we watch Kerry cross the street. She kisses my dad full on the lips and then straddles the seat behind him. He revs the throttle and they ride away into the sunset.

“And watch a bunch of drunk, greying old bikers boast about how big their engines are while their trampy women drape themselves across their laps? Not my idea of fun, Holly.”

“Yeah, bunch of hussies. Though I wouldn’t mind draping myself across Red Hot Rob’s lap again.”

“Whath a huthy?” Sam’s little lisp pipes up from beside me.

“Yo’ momma.” Holly shoots back with a cheeky grin.

“Seriously Holly? You don’t think he’s going to repeat that?”

She shrugs. “It’s true"

And then we throw a hot piece like Elijah Cade in the mix...

“Come on, Ana Belle, it’s the least you could do after humiliating me in front of your dad for the past two weeks.”

“Hey, you brought that on yourself.”

“How so?”

“You came strutting in here all cocky, with your dimples and your tattoos and your big brown eyes and expected us to swoon.”

“Baby girl, if that’s all it takes to make you swoon then you just wait ‘til you see what I do with my hands.”

Oh yeah, things get a little bit steamy between those 2, but don't get me wrong, if you think this book is about two people fallin un love and living happily ever after then this book is not what you want to read. Unfortunately, Ana and Cade have so many issues and secrets to have an easy and normal relationship, so things starts to get complicated and the emotional rollercoaster begins. There were some parts where I wanted to kick Ana and Cade for their stupidity and stubborness and other times I was really doubting there will be a HEA for those two, but Ms. Jenner saved the day graciously enough to left all the bad moments behind.

There are some subjects mentioned in the book that can be disturbing to some readers.

Do I recommend this book?... DEFINATELY!... but like I said, be prepared to experience different emotions while reading.

Book Review - Windows by Emily Minton

4 STARS!!!

I liked this story so much that I couldn't put the book down until I finished reading. It's a beautiful, sweet story about true love.

This is the story of Lucas and Lindy, along with Tara, they've been friends since there were kids. Everything change in High School since Lucas is the school quarterback and Lindy is the nerd chubby girl, and since nobody likes her, he doesn't speak to her at school, but he still climbs trough her window every night to spend time with her…

"Tara and Lucas are my only friends. In fact, they are the only people who even talk to me. Well, Lucas only talks to me when we are at home. But, at least he doesn't pick on me at school like everyone else does.
Lucas and I grew up together. We've lived next door to each other our entire lives. Our moms have been best friends since before we were even born. Our dads were both cops and were partners for years, but my dad was shot during a routine traffic stop. I was only nine at the time."

Ok at this point I was like “OH GO TO HELL LUCAS!”, but then I kept reading and he explain to her stuff and I was like “ok, that makes sense” I mean High School can be brutal, right?...

So Lindy is in love with Lucas since she can remember, but right before they go to college, something happens, he broke her heart and she left.

“The next morning, Mom helps me pack my stuff into Tara's car. She gives me a hug, and I climb in. We are just pulling out of the driveway when Lucas comes running out his front door.
"Lindy! Wait!" he screams.
I look over at Tara and shake my head. We drive away, and I don’t even look back.”

4 years later, she’s back in town and he’s decided to be close to her again and prove her he’s changed:

"Visions of Lucas and his friends laughing at me fill my head. I try to shake them away, but I cannot get rid of them. "You did it before."
"Damn it, Lindy. I was barely eighteen when I did that shit. I'm not a stupid kid anymore. I am a grown ass man. I would never do something like that to you again." He blows out a breath. "Fuck baby, you’ve got to give me a chance. Please, let me prove myself to you."

But this is not just a story about love and friendship, there’s also a touch of suspense with a crazy man lose in town.

"Break-ins in Warrington?" I had never heard of anything like that ever happening here. Sure, kids would pull a few pranks every once in a while. Occasionally my dad or Paul would get called out on a domestic violence case, but that was it. Yes, my dad got murdered, but everyone thinks that was someone just passing through.
Tara nods. "Not normal break-ins either. Whoever is doing it doesn’t steal anything. They just break all the mirrors in the house. The papers call him the Mirror Man."

Oh and there’s a lot of steamy scenes in there too!

“I look down into her eyes and smile. "Damn, Lindy. I missed you so fucking much."
She stops laughing. I can’t read the expression on her face, but I can tell that she is thinking about something. "I missed you too," she whispers.
I promised myself that I was going to take this slow, but I just can’t wait any damn longer. I bring my lips to hers and place a soft kiss on them. I pull back because I don’t want to scare her off, but she follows my mouth. I can’t stop myself. I kiss her deeper this time. My tongue explores her mouth. I can taste the popcorn and butter, but mostly I just taste her, and she tastes amazing. She pushes her body up into mine, and my cock climbs my zipper all the way to the top button, the denim going tight, painful. Rubbing against her makes it worse, far worse. All I want is to be inside her heat. Now. Right fucking now. "

AND, as you can read, the book is from dual POV, so we get to understand better their actions.

Great book, great story, great characters, suspense and action… Highly recommended!
